All-Big 12 running back Aaron Green delivered some of the most memorable moments in TCU history
22 | RB Aaron Green (2012-2015)
The horror, the shock, the endless sea of surrender cobras, the shirtless man hanging over the railing, and the realization that Aaron Green and the TCU Horned Frogs had pulled off an impossible catch to take the lead in the final seconds in Lubbock in 2015. The “Catch 22” is an indelible TCU moment delivered by the San Antonio running back, one of many Green provided during his three active seasons with the Horned Frogs after transferring from Nebraska.
After sitting out the 2012 season due to the NCAA transfer rules at the time, Green had a productive, if unspectacular, season in 2013 before his breakout midway through the 2014 campaign. Green began stealing Red Raider hearts in his junior season, storming to 106 yards and a touchdown on just six carries while the Amon G. Carter Stadium pyrotechnics crew couldn’t keep pace, running out of a season’s-worth of fireworks during TCU’s 82-27 beatdown. Green would not rush for fewer than 63 yards the rest of the season, including a 65-yard 3rd quarter TD run as part of a 171-yard performance to secure the Horned Frogs’ win over No. 7 Kansas State. Green finished the season as a Second-Team All-Big 12 honoree with 1,088 scrimmage yards and 11 total touchdowns.
As tremendous as his 2014 was, Green took it up a level in 2015, going for over 100 yards in six games, three of which he produced over 160 rushing yards. The game in Lubbock wasn’t just that final glorious catch, he had already produced 162 rushing yards and 2 scores on the ground. A couple weeks later, the Horned Frogs would again be trailing on the road needing a major comeback, this time in Manhattan where Green would go for 121 yards and 2 TDs, including a monster 86-yard scamper on the opening play of the game. His 2015 season would go in the Horned Frogs history books, ranking as Top Ten all-time in program history with 1,272 rushing yards
