All-Mountain West cornerback Nick Sanders shut down opposing attacks from 2006-2009
20 | CB Nick Sanders (2005-2009)
Arriving in Fort Worth as a three-star running back out of Kilgore in the Class of 2005, Nick Sanders became a lockdown cornerback for the Horned Frogs. After redshirting his first year on campus, Sanders would be recognized as a Freshman All-American honorable mention in 2006, starting all 13 games for the Frogs, logging three interceptions, returning one for a touchdown vs. Army. Sanders would continue to start every game in 2007 with his best game coming in the Texas Bowl win over Houston, with seven tackles to hold the dynamic Case Keenum-led offense to just 13 points. Named an honorable mention All-Mountain West in 2008, Sanders led the Frogs in passes defensed and recorded two interceptions of Heisman candidate Max Hall in TCU’s demolition of No. 9 BYU, ending the Cougars’ BCS hopes. After starting 36 straight games, Sanders finally missed a pair of contests in 2009, but was still named to the First-Team All-Conference team as the Horned Frogs would complete the undefeated regular season winning the Mountain West title.
