The All-American and Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Year won the Jet Award in 2022 as the nation’s top return specialist
11 | WR Derius Davis (2018-2022)
One the fastest players in the nation and one of the most electrical playmakers to ever hit the field for the Horned Frogs, wide receiver and return specialist Derius Davis could break a game open in a flash. Arriving in Fort Worth as a three-star cornerback prospect out of West Feliciana, LA in the Class of 2018, Davis would convert to the offensive side of the ball and score a pair of touchdowns in his collegiate debut to open the 2018 season – a 12-yard reception and a 73-yard punt return. With five career punt return touchdowns, Davis led the nation in both 2020 and 2022, placing fourth all-time in the Big 12 and 18th overall in the NCAA since 1976. In 2022 he also led the conference in punt return yards and was 2nd in the league in kickoff return yardage, finishing the season as the First-Team All-Big 12 and First Team All-American returner, earning Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Year and the Jet Award, presented to the nation’s top return specialist.
Davis was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers in the 4th Round of the 2023 NFL Draft where he’d become a Second-Team All-Pro as a rookie, contributing 926 all-purpose yards and a TD in his first NFL season.
