The Horned Frogs will be without their standout lefty this spring.
Less than 48 hours before the team will take the field for its season opener, TCU baseball suffered a significant loss to its pitching staff, with Kendall Rogers reporting that All-Big 12 left-hander Ben Abeldt will miss the entire 2025 season with a UCL/flexor injury. It’s a huge blow to the Horned Frogs, who had stretched Abeldt out over the offseason and intended to use him as a weekend starter. Abeldt was an All-Big 12 First Team honoree after posting a 1.83 ERA with 54 strikeouts and eight saves over 44.1 innings pitched this past season.
INJURY NEWS: @TCU_Baseball LHP Ben Abeldt, No. 90 in our 2025 Prospect Rankings and a projected weekend starter for the #Frogs, will miss the 2025 season because of a partially torn UCL/flexor. He will have surgery next week and it’s a 6-9 month recovery process. #TCU #MLBDraft

TCU will start its four-game series against San Diego tomorrow evening. The Horned Frogs are reportedly starting Caedmon Parker, Tommy LaPour and Trever Baumler over the first three games, with Monday’s starter to be determined. Abeldt broke out during his freshman season in 2023, when he posted a 3.60 ERA with 71 strikeouts over 55 innings pitched. TCU is looking to build on a 33-21 overall record and a 14-16 record in the Big 12 last year.
