With the score tied at 1-1 in the top of the third inning, TCU surged ahead after an RBI single from shortstop Anthony Silva, who drove the ball into left-center field and drove home Chase Brunson. Texas State evened the score again in the bottom of the third inning, but the Horned Frogs answered after third baseman Colton Griffin laced an RBI single in the top of the fourth inning to give TCU the lead again. A fielding error in the top of the fifth inning allowed second baseman Jack Bell to reach and bring home Silva, making the score 4-2.

Leading 4-3 after the Bobcats tallied a run in the bottom of the sixth inning, TCU added a much-needed insurance run in the top of the eighth inning, where Bell belted a solo shot over the left-center field wall on a 3-1 count to give the Horned Frogs a two-run cushion. TCU finished with 10 hits in the game, with Griffin going 3-for-5 from the lead-off spot. Right fielder Sawyer Strosnider went 2-for-3, while Franco drew two walks and added one hit.
