The SMU basketball program has received a Notice of Allegations from the NCAA that accuses the program of academic improprieties, according to Jeff Goodman of ESPN.com. SMU will have a chance to respond to the allegations.
According to Goodman, assistant coach’s Ulric Maligi’s involvement with sophomore Keith Fraizer has come under fire. Frazier was deemed academically ineligible for the remainder of the season early Friday. The guard is averaging 10.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.
“This is about his eligibility in school,” coach Larry Brown told ESPN’s Andy Katz. “This is all about what he did academically. It’s a GPA issue.
Maligi took a leave of absence on Tuesday for personal reasons.
In a statement, SMU acknowledged receiving the allegations, but denied to comment further. “SMU has receive a Notice of Allegations from NCAA. We are working through our response to them and will have no further comment.”
SMU (13-4, 4-1 American) will play East Carolina Saturday afternoon.
