Earlier this Tuesday, it was announced that Tim Jankovich is out as the head coach of SMU’s basketball team. Moments ago, we learned why the program will be making a coaching change.
After spending several decades coaching at the collegiate level, Jankovich is retiring from the profession.
Jankovich, 62, has been SMU’s head coach since the 2016 season. He had a 125-64 record during his time with the Mustangs.
Before he became the head coach of SMU’s basketball team, Jankovich had stints with North Texas and Illinois State. Overall, he had a 282-185 record coaching Division-I Basketball.
Jankovich was also an assistant head coach for Illinois, Kansas and Vanderbilt over the course of his career.

With Jankovich out, SMU is expected to turn its attention over to Grant McCasland. He’s been with North Texas since 2017.
McCasland turned a lot of heads during the 2020-21 season, leading the Mean Green to the Round of 32.
