Nigel Walls, the No. 57 overall prospect in the 2025 class, has committed to SMU, he announced live to 247Sports.
Walls — the 6-foot-10, 195-pound forward from St. Francis Episcopal School (TX) and the JL3 Elite Nike EYBL AAU program — chose SMU over his other two finalists Auburn and TCU.
“Coach [Andy] Enfield talked to me about how he can develop me as a shooter and turn me into a pro, which is where I want to be in the next couple of years” Walls said of his decision. “It just really stuck with me and I know he’s going to get it done.”
The stretch big man had a solid summer with JL3 Elite. Across 15 regular season games, Walls averaged 6.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 21.4 minutes per contest.
“I’m more a shooter, kind of a stretch four that can handle the ball,” Walls previously said of his game. “I’m on kind of the lighter side, so I use more finesse than power. But I can stretch the floor, run the floor. I feel like my shooting is on an elite level… Any big has to step out on me and I feel like I’m more athletic than any of them to get past them. And if they don’t step up on my shot I can just knock it down.”
Walls becomes the third commit this cycle for SMU, joining Jaden Toombs and Jermaine O’Neal Jr. SMU could be getting some more good news on the recruiting front with guard target Jerry Easter nearing his decision soon.
