Dallas police issued arrest warrants for Rashee Rice and Theodore “Teddy” Knox for their roles in a hit-and-run car crash.
Knox plays cornerback at SMU, Rice’s former school before joining the Kansas City Chiefs last season. The 21-year-old was allegedly driving a Corvette owned by Rice that crashed with the NFL player’s Lamborghini on a Texas highway on March 30.
On Thursday, SMU suspended Knox from the team
“SMU takes these allegations seriously,” the school said, via NFL Network’s Clayton Holloway. “Federal student privacy laws prevent the University from discussing details involving student disciplinary proceedings.”
Rice and Knox allegedly caused a multi-car crash involving four other vehicles while driving at high speeds. Police said both drivers fled the scene without providing information or checking on anyone’s status.
Four people were treated for injuries, with two going to the hospital.
Rice and Knox each face one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury, and six counts of collision involving injury. Neither person was in police custody as of Thursday night, but Rice reportedly plans to turn himself over to authorities.
Rice took “full responsibility” for his behavior in an Instagram post last week, and his lawyer said the 23-year-old will cooperate with authorities.
A four-star recruit out of Louisiana, Knox redshirted at SMU in 2021. Playing alongside Rice in 2022, he tallied four catches for three yards and four tackles.
Knox collected four more tackles in 2023 while playing primarily on special teams in 11 games.
