Mavs-Rockets Halloween Edition
One of the fun parts about being a sports fan is arguing about things which may never happen or might be ridiculous, but when you enjoy talking about sports, you put it in whatever context is fun. Whether that be running different scenarios, what-ifs, and hypotheticals – in your head, with friends, or on social media – it’s the endless possibilities you come up with for the team that make being a fan exciting.
That being said…as a Mavs fan on the eve of Dallas vs Houston, I present you with the following choices…
Would you rather…
- See Luka have an efficient shooting night and go off for a 30pt triple double
OR
- See some of the role players (i.e. Naji, Grimes, Hardy) get it going on both ends of the floor
On the one hand, fans would breathe a sigh of relief seeing Luka retake last season’s form after a rocky (for his standards) start. On the other, the Mavs undeniably need something more from their bench, (which only had a total of 9pts vs the Suns), if they want to compete. So which would you prefer?
I personally believe that both hypotheticals are intertwined. Once Luka shakes the rust off, things will also open up for the rest of the team. Like it or not, 77 usually sets the tone and the other guys tend to go as he does. It’s understandable that after missing all of the preseason, it might take Doncic more than four games to survey, adapt to new personnel and get his legs underneath him. Once he settles into a regular season rhythm, the rest of the Mavs should follow suit.
So as rewarding as it would be watching Grimes and Naji get deep into their 3&D bags, in my opinion, I’d rather see Luka looking a little bit more…well, like Luka, bc once that occurs the other pieces will better fall into place.
