Luka Doncic reunited with Mark Cuban and several other familiar faces during an emotional return to American Airlines Center.
On Wednesday night, Doncic led the Los Angeles Lakers to a 112-97 victory over the Dallas Mavericks. The 26-year-old scored 45 points, matching his highest tally since February’s stunning trade.
After the game, Doncic and Cuban shared a moment on the court. Doncic embraced Cuban, who was wearing a Mavericks T-shirt of Anthony Davis, acquired from Los Angeles in the blockbuster deal.

The evening started with Doncic tearing up as he watched the team’s tribute video. In a post-game interview with Lisa Salters, the guard admitted that it was difficult channeling his emotions to focus on the basketball.
“I don’t know how I did it,” Doncic said. “Because when I was watching that video, I was like, ‘There’s no way I’m playing this game.’ But you know, all my teammates had my back. They were really supportive, so I really appreciate that.”
Many Mavericks fans remain furious with the organization for dealing Doncic, but they should know not to blame Cuban. The entrepreneur sold his controlling stake of the franchise to the Adelson family in December 2023.
In a recent interview with Stephen A. Smith, Cuban reiterated that he wouldn’t have traded Doncic if he had the final say. He confirmed that Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison informed him of the deal right before it became official.
“Nico decided that defense wins championships, and he thought that Anthony Davis would be a better anchor … But Luka Doncic is a generational talent,” Cuban said. “While there’s an argument to be made, and I understand where Nico’s coming from, it’s just not the same decision I would have made.”
Mavericks fans instead directed their vitriol at Harrison, chanting “Firo Nico” throughout the game. Although Cuban disagreed with the GM’s decision, he also appeared displeased by the crowd’s plea.
Fan video showed a seemingly upset Cuban shaking his head as they shouted to fire Harrison.
