This one was rather lopsided
The Dallas Mavericks have improved to 5-3 on the young season with this resounding win against the Chicago Bulls, 119-99. Now 2-2 on this five-game home stand, Dallas has earned a rubber game on Friday evening against the scorching hot Phoenix Suns. Here’s a few numbers to know from this one.
17-0: Dallas’ first quarter run
Down 9-5 early in this game, Dallas was in the all too familiar place of losing early on in a game. However, Dallas pulled themselves out of the fog by going on a 17-0 run to go in front by the score 22-9. The game ebbed and flowed from there, but the game was never truly in doubt from that point on. Dallas has given us a few glimpses of what they are capable of at times early on this year, so it was nice to see another one of those tonight.
15: Kyrie Irving’s first quarter scoring
An aggressive Kyrie Irving is a good Kyrie Irving, and we saw that early on tonight. Starting 6/6 from the field, he was a tone setter during that extended first quarter run. When your vets set a tone early on against inferior competition, it challenges the rest of the group to match that level. Credit to Kyrie for the strong effort early, which earned him a 4th quarter off.
14: Number of Mavericks to get playing time
Blow out theater is always a blast, and tonight we got extended burn from Olivier-Maxence Prosper, and the season debuts of Kessler Edwards and Markieff Morris. The 14 Mavericks to get burn tonight were all of the available Mavericks, with Dereck Lively and PJ Washington being unavailable for this one due to lingering injuries. Props to Jazian Gortman, who scored his first career NBA points in this one.
