Washington converted the first two free throws and intentionally missed the third one, allowing the Mavs to win as there were only 2.5 seconds left for the OKC to try and score a basket from full-court. “I shouldn’t have fouled him,” Gilgeous-Alexander said in his post-game comments. “We talked about it all year, the little things that go into winning games… It sucks.” “If I had the movement back, I wouldn’t have fouled him,” he reiterated. “I just would make him miss the shot, but in basketball, you win some, you lose some. You make mistakes,” he noted gracefully. When asked if he could look at the position’s replay, the Canadian guard was clear. “I can’t look at it,” he said. “I don’t want to look at it. I fouled him, clearly, because they reviewed it, so there is nothing to look at.”

OKC is baiting Gafford to switch onto SGA and then swinging the ball to the second side to attack from there. Smart gameplan. – 8:20 PM

Chet surrenders on the opening tip and tricks the Mavs into backtapping it to SGA, who passes it to JDub for the easy dunk. Quite the 1st play of the game for the Thunder – 8:14 PM

Jason Kidd on SGA & Jalen Williams: “Those guys are super talented and it’s hard to guard one on one. You try to throw many bodies and try to keep them in front. They’ll still get good shots but you try to make it tough for them.” – 6:29 PM

Paul’s 15th NBA season lined up with Gilgeous-Alexander’s second. Gilgeous-Alexander was traded from the LA Clippers to the Thunder on July 6, 2019. The NBA world was in Las Vegas for summer league at the time. Paul, then on the Houston Rockets, ran into Gilgeous-Alexander and told him the Thunder situation would be great for him. “Little did I know…” Paul said. -via New York Times / May 16, 2024
Chris Paul, a renowned communicator who is a fan of the phone call over the text message, picks up just after getting off the other line with Gilgeous-Alexander. They’d spent some time talking about life and basketball, including the schematics defining this Dallas series. “We talk hoop all the time,” Paul said. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander didn’t tell Paul he’d zinged Holmgren for sagging too far back on the Irving jumper, but Paul was pleased to hear about it from a reporter. Paul has yelled at a center or two in his time for a mistake. “I’m glad,” Paul said. “That’s big.” Then he laughed: “I mean…He got to see it.” -via New York Times / May 16, 2024
