Dallas loses a bad one in overtime
The Dallas Mavericks lost a maddening game to the Miami Heat on Sunday evening, falling 123-118. Following the game, Josh and I try to make sense of the collapse following what had been a pretty fantastic and fun contest.
We open working backwards. I explain what happened, or really, what didn’t happen with the inept Dallas offense in the overtime, where the Mavericks scored two baskets and Spencer Dinwiddie shot the ball a ton. Then I work through the final play in regulation where Dereck Lively and PJ Washington had a massive miscommunication which led to a game-tying dunk from Jimmy Butler. Josh then walks us through what he feels were the reasons Dallas was even in the position to lose a winnable game. The bench is his main culprit, including Spencer Dinwiddie.

After a live read from our sponsor (please visit BodySpec and use code PODMAVS45 to get $15 off a DEXA scan full body scan) we continue working our way through the issues which resulted in the loss. We really hit hard on the Jason Kidd of it all; he did a poor job in this game, but his decisions to play bench heavy line ups when the team is missing Luka Doncic is a decision I’ll question until he stops doing it or provides a good reason. Those line ups get killed. It’s in the data!
Dallas can’t afford losses like this. They have to do better.
