The Dallas Mavericks have been laughing stock around the NBA world after they shockingly moved on from Luka Doncic, the face, heart and soul of the franchise, ahead of the 2025 trade deadline.
While team governor Patrick Dumont and general manager Nico Harrison explained they shipped Doncic to the LA Lakers due to concerns about his health long-term given Doncic’s unhealthy habits, fans can’t wrap their heads around that decision.
More than that, they clowned the team for wasting plenty of talent in the last four years or so, losing big names like Jalen Brunson, Kristaps Porzingis and Questin Grimes besides Doncic.
“Laker nation will always be thankful!” one fan wrote with an edit of a Nico Harrison jersey hanging in the rafters.
“This level of incompetence is insane,” another fan tweeted.
“the mavericks exist to serve bigger markets,” a third fan added.
“Man Nico really on a generational type inside job. The day he gets fired will be glorious, but it will be too late. Mavs can never win another game for all I care. Being a Lakers fan for 2 months already showing how much better class organizations are,” a fourth fan wrote.
“Ok, this one…this one really hurts,” a fifth fan wrote.
The Mavericks rank 10th in the Western Conference standings (33-36) and have lost six of the last seven games since Kyrie Irving went down with an ACL injury. Anthony Davis got hurt in his first game with the team and is planning to sit out the rest of the season.
They went from playing in the 2024 NBA Finals to possibly missing the 2025 playoffs, facing an uncertain future with an aging Irving and injury-prone Davis leading the charge. Fans keep chanting “Fire Nico” every game and that doesn’t seem to be stopping soon.
