Normally we scour the innards of YouTube, this time we shine a well-deserved spotlight.
Last night will be remembered for all the wrong reasons around these parts for a very long time. The “Fantastic Ball Match” ended with a split double team from DeRozan. The arena was smattered with boos and chants. The brutal look the Maverick brain trust insists on hanging around their necks like a millstone was reputational malpractice. The day after such a grim night, we were gifted a brief respite from the lunacy.
The purpose of this series is to bring you the videos we find on YouTube that are worth your time. Admittedly, some videos we present meet that criteria more than others. In the process of long-form aggregation, quality content that rises above the rest can get lost in the shuffle. That is why for the first time – and perhaps only time – in the history of The RoundUp we are doing something unique.
Slightly Biased has made the long journey from a random underground Twitch and YouTube channel to something of an institution amongst the more plugged-in and devoted aspects of Dallas Mavericks fandom. This means casuals may not have heard of Slightly Biased. Others may find his brand of humor and analysis off-putting. Yet his core audience has fostered feelings of loyalty to the guy and his willingness to drop a nearly two-hour masterpiece entitled “How to Betray Your Fanbase” is a masterclass the RoundUp could not ignore.
This documentary of sorts is poignant, melancholy, biting, crass, and kinda beautiful. If there was an Academy Award for sports franchise criticism, Slightly would win going away. So, dear reader, crack open the beverage of your choice — perhaps even one Michael Finley would not approve of — and watch this one in its entirety. It will hurt but right now, it is too early for hope, and that pain is all we have.
