The votes have been counted, and we have winners
On Tuesday, we here at Mavs Moneyball put together a few propositions for our readers to vote on. After three days of voting and nearly 800 responses, we’ve got the results to our questions. Much appreciation to everyone who participated in this exercise! We’ll be doing more of these polls into the future, along with our “Would you rather” series that Katie has been championing. With that being said, let’s dive into the results for each of our 4 propositions.
Starting Center
Unsurprisingly, Dereck Lively II has won the popular vote amongst Mavs fans, receiving nearly 75% of the overall vote. Part of me expected this number to be even higher, which goes to show that there is still a healthy chunk of Mavericks fans out there who respect the continuity of Gafford starting. (My vote: Lively)
Proposition 6: Who should be the Mavericks’ 6th man
This question was one that I think would’ve been answered differently the day before the season began. Naji Marshall ran away with the votes here, receiving nearly 80%. It’s well deserved, as in the last few games Naji has been the player we have expected him to be. However, the interesting part of this to me was Quentin Grimes being third by our total votes. I might be higher on Grimes than most, but I think after rotations settle, he’s going to be a big part of this team’s success. (My vote: Marshall)
Proposition 77: Luka Indicators
Another answer that didn’t shock me was the nearly 85% of voters who responded by saying Luka’s assist numbers are more indicative of team success. Luka has dished out 28 assists over the last two games, which coincides with him playing his 2 best games of the year to date. He’s coming around, which is a good thing to see. (My vote: Assists)
Proposition C: Clutch Time
This proposition turned out to be a two-horse race between Luka Doncic & Kyrie Irving, but what a race it was. Luka pulled ahead late to receive 50% of the vote, but this was within 5 percentage points for the majority of the polling period. Kyrie’s history is not to be ignored, and the fact that both he and Doncic are seen as nearly equally viable by Mavs fans is awfully good for the Mavericks. Klay’s shot making, while dependent on others, is also a fun option to think about, too. I suspect we’ll see him get a couple looks at clutch shots over the rest of the year. (My vote: Irving)
