The Dallas Mavericks had quite the day on Thursday.
They demolished the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals and took home the West title. They’ll now play in the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics next week.
After the game, Mavericks center Dereck Lively II had a beautiful message for his late mother after clinching the West.
“I love you Mom, I love you, Mom. Just keep watching I’m gonna make you proud,” Lively said.

Lively’s mother, Kathy Drysdale, passed away in April at the age of 53. She had been battling cancer and was Lively’s “superhero.”
“My heart breaks saying goodbye to the most important person in the world to me, my best friend, my superhero, my biggest cheerleader, and mom, Kathy Drysdale. There is no one in this world that can love you more than your mother. As strong and stubborn as she is I have watched her struggle, fight, and survive cancer for the past 11 years and now her battle has ended,” Lively said in a statement when she passed.
Lively is now just four wins away from becoming an NBA Champion in just his first season.
The NBA Finals will start next Thursday, Jun. 6.
