After trading away the face of their franchise, Mavericks ownership appears to be extending an olive branch to its most valued fans.
Per Abby Jones of DLLS Sports, the Mavs have offered refunds to season ticket holders who chose to cancel their plans for the remaining home games this season post-Luka trade.
The “unprecedented” move is reported to be valued around $2,000 and appears to be a sign that the team knows it alienated a good portion of its supporters by shipping Doncic to LA.
Folks were pretty shocked by Dallas’ decision online.
“Wow. This isn’t going away,” a user said. “Interested to see if Nico addresses the media again.”
“Imagine making a trade so bad, you have to refund fans,” another pointed out.
“I hope no one never shows up to another game,” a fan posted.
“I can’t believe the Mavs are refunding tickets! Honestly that’s crazy,” a Dallas native replied.
“Will be a lot of people taking them up on this.”
“Wow. This is how you know that they know they messed up bad,” another user commented.
“Pretty wild for a brand to refund tickets midseason — or at all,” another person shared.
“What to do when you know you’ve royally screwed up…” Ed Werder said.
Clearly, this wasn’t a trade that was well-received by the Dallas, TX faithful. It’ll be interesting to see just how long it takes for the Mavericks to wish they could have this one back.
