The Dallas Mavericks have interest in acquiring an impact perimeter defender to their roster by the Feb. 6th trade deadline, sources tell The Athletic. Herb Jones is the type of player that would fit that description, but he is unlikely to be made available by the New Orleans Pelicans.
The Mavericks already have their deepest roster since drafting Luka Doncic as they have acquired Kyrie Irving, PJ Washington and Daniel Gafford during the past two trade deadlines to go with Dereck Lively in the 2023 draft, plus Klay Thompson and Naji Marshall from the 2024 free agency period.
If the Mavericks are unable to upgrade their roster with a defensive addition, the point of attack defender to try to slow down the likes of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will be a combination of Washington, Marshall and Quentin Grimes.
