Until Mark Cuban addressed the media this week to convey his version of the Dallas Mavericks’ moves that have led to a disappointing season, he has had a lower profile. Cuban’s availability with the media came one day after Luka Doncic spoke candidly about his assessment of the Mavericks’ season.
“He has been, and he says by design, letting Nico Harrison the new GM kind of take the reins [and] Jason Kidd,” said Tim MacMahon on The Hoop Collective Podcast. “He has been much, much less accessible than in years past.
“Also, he has been not around the team nearly as much. The last time I’m aware of Cuban going to a road game was in L.A. the first game that Kyrie Irving played in a Mavericks’ uniform. This miserable five-game trip that they just went on with their season on the line… Cuban wasn’t there for any of it.
“But Cuban decided impromptu [on] Wednesday night, ‘Hey, I’m going to make myself available.’
“Coincidentally Luka talked Tuesday and bemoaned how much worse the Mavs’ chemistry is this season.”
Doncic specifically talked about how much the Mavericks miss Jalen Brunson.
“Cuban came in there with a pretty clear agenda. The top thing on the agenda was ‘Let’s set the record straight, I didn’t screw up the Jalen Brunson situation. It’s all Rick Brunson’s fault.'”
MacMahon and Brian Windhorst assume that Doncic’s comments led to the timing of Cuban’s media session.
