It’s been almost a week since the Dallas Mavericks shockingly traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.
The deal came out of nowhere and when it was announced, a lot of sports fans thought it was fake. It didn’t seem real when ESPN’s Shams Charania broke the news to everyone via social media but it was.
The Mavericks traded Doncic, Maxi Kleber, and Markieff Morris to the Los Angeles Lakers and got Anthony Davis, a 2029 first-round pick, and Max Christie in return. The Utah Jazz were the third team to participate in the trade, acquiring Jalen Hood-Schifino and two second-round picks.
After the dust settled, Mark Cuban, who is now a minority owner of the Mavericks, joked with Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, about the deal.
“If after you left the company, they traded Microsoft 11 for Microsoft 10… what would you do?” Cuban asked.
That’s some cold stuff from Cuban, showing that even he’s still baffled by the deal.
The Mavericks feel that this move sets them up for the present and the future even if most of the NBA community disagrees. The Lakers have their franchise cornerstone for the foreseeable future even when LeBron James decided to retire.
The Lakers are all in on trying to win one more title before James retires but will still be contending well after he stops playing.
Despite being out with an injury for a bit, Doncic has put up some great numbers when he’s been in the lineup, averaging 28 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 7.8 assists per game.
The Lakers hope that he can make his debut on Monday against the Utah Jazz. Tip-off for that game will be at 10:30 p.m. ET.
