Dallas Mavericks minority owner Mark Cuban has been mentioned as the next potential businessman turned president of the United States. He even entertained the idea of running for office back in 2020.
Four years ago, Cuban said he commissioned a poll to see what his numbers would look like if he ran as an independent. During an interview with David Exelrod, he said, “If the numbers were to come back significantly higher, and I would have been able to take more away from either or both candidates, then I probably would have tried to convince my family.”
Instead of running for president in 2024, Cuban strongly backed Kamala Harris. There were several moments where he took shots at Donald Trump, referring to him as a liar protected by the mainstream media.
All that being said, it appears Cuban is ready to take a step back from all the political chatter going on in the United States. In an interview with Jon Stewart, he revealed that he doesn’t plan on running for president because he doesn’t want people coming after his family.
“It was mostly on Twitter,” Cuban said when talking about the criticism politicians put up with. “I’m fine with that, but it’s if they go after my kids and my family and dealing with that. My kids are 15, 18 and 21 now. And more importantly than that, I want to be around them.”
Cuban also made a reference to a false story involving Vice President-elect JD Vance and a couch.
“I mean, look at all the [expletive] that they did to JD Vance. I don’t want my kids hearing about me [expletive] a couch!”
After seeing those comments from Cuban, it seems fair to say his perspective on the presidency has changed.
This doesn’t by any means signal a shift in Cuban’s political views. At the very least though, it shows that he’s not itching to make a run at the White House.
Of course, Cuban’s opinion is subject to change.
