Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic didn’t suit up on Friday night, but he did make headlines for unfortunate reasons.
It was revealed on Saturday that Doncic’s house was burglarized during the Mavericks-Suns game. As of now, there aren’t a lot of details regarding this break-in. All we know for sure is that he filed a police report.
“No one was home at the time and thankfully Luka and his family are safe,” Doncic’s business manager said. “Luka has filed a police report and an investigation is ongoing.”
We’re certainly glad Doncic’s family wasn’t home when the burglary happened.
Doncic is the latest high-profile athlete to report a burglary. Back in October, the homes of Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce were broken into during their “Monday Night Football” game against the New Orleans Saints. Two months later, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow reported a home invasion.
The NFL sent a memo to its players about a possible South American crime syndicate targeting athletes.
“It’s legit,” a source told NFL Network. “It’s a transnational crime ring, and over the last three weeks, they’ve focused on NBA and NFL players, and it’s all over the country.”
Doncic is the second NBA player to report a burglary in the past two months. Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis announced on social media that people broke into his River Hills home in November.
“I consider Milwaukee my home. Last night, while I was at work, my home was burglarized, and many of my prized possessions were stolen,” Portis said.
We’re certainly hoping the FBI can make progress in its investigation. The last thing we want is for more NBA and NFL players to report burglaries.
