The Dallas Mavericks downgraded Luka Doncic’s status ahead of Sunday’s NBA Finals game against the Boston Celtics.
According to MavericksGameday’s Grant Afseth, the Mavericks changed Doncic’s availability from probable to questionable. They added a thoracic contusion to the star’s growing list of ailments.
Dallas first placed Doncic on the injury report with a right knee sprain during the first round. The team included left ankle soreness in the second round.
Per Afseth, Doncic did not participate in the open portion of Sunday’s shootaround.
Despite those numerous issues, Doncic has not missed a game this postseason. The regular season’s leading scorer has averaged 25.1 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 7.3 assists in 18 playoff games.
Doncic led Dallas with 30 points and 10 rebounds in Thursday’s Game 1 loss at TD Garden. No other Mavericks player reached 15 points in the 107-89 defeat.
However, the 25-year-old dished out a season-low one assist in a game where Dallas shot 41.7 percent from the floor. The Western Conference champions made seven of 27 three-pointers, with Doncic going 4-of-12 from behind the arc.
“I think we really got good shots,” Doncic said after the game, per USA Today‘s Jeff Zillgitt. “We just didn’t make them.”
Although he practiced on Saturday, a video surfaced of Doncic appearing to grab his chest in discomfort. A thoracic contusion is a chest bruise often caused by a hard fall or crash.
It remains unclear if Doncic will play in Game 2, which starts Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
