The Dallas Mavericks’ 2024-25 season ended on Friday night with a loss against the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA play-in tournament.
The Mavericks became the 11th team in NBA history to miss the playoffs after reaching the NBA Finals the previous season. They were down by 15 against the Grizzlies after the first quarter and couldn’t muster up a comeback, losing 120-106.
Anthony Davis did everything in his power to will the Mavericks to a win, finishing with 40 points, nine rebounds, and two assists. He was even playing banged up.
He was part of the massive Luka Doncic trade that sent Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, a move that stunned the NBA community in February.
Klay Thompson was second on the team in scoring during Friday’s game, finishing with 18 points, three assists, and two rebounds. This has been his only season with the Mavericks and still has two seasons left on his contract after signing with them for three years.
After the loss, Thompson was asked if he regretted signing with the Mavericks knowing what he knows now and had no interest in answering it.
“Don’t do this to me,” Thompson said. “Can’t do that to me. Don’t do that. That’s kind of a ridiculous question because I don’t own a time machine and I don’t believe in going back, looking back. If I did that my whole career, I would not be where I’m at and I would not have been able to persevere through two really hard injuries so I’m here in Dallas and I enjoyed my time and I’m looking forward to the future.”
Thompson had a strong season for the Mavericks, averaging 14 points, 3.4 rebounds, and two assists per game.
The NBA Playoffs, along with the Stanley Cup Playoffs, are set to start on Saturday.
