The team announced Curt Miller would be the team’s general manager.
The Dallas Wings took their first step towards a new era of the franchise Friday when it announced the hiring of Curt Miller as the team’s general manager.
The team opened a search for the position last month after it announced the firing of head coach Latricia Trammell and team President Greg Bibb’s decision to step away from the basketball operations of the team.
“Curt Miller is a proven winner with deep experience building and leading WNBA rosters and staffs,” Bibb said in a press release Friday. “I believe Curt’s ability to construct winning teams as well as his success in coaching in the WNBA and beyond will prove invaluable for our organization as we continue our pursuit of a WNBA Championship.”
Miller coached the Los Angeles Sparks for the last two seasons and was the coach and general manager of the Connecticut Sun for seven years before that. Connecticut made the playoffs six times in his seven seasons and Miller was named Executive of the Year once and Coach of the Year twice during his tenure in Connecticut.
“I am excited to join the Dallas Wings as the new Executive Vice President and General Manager,” Miller said in the release. “I’d like to thank Greg Bibb, Bill Cameron and the rest of the partners for this incredible opportunity. The potential of the Dallas Wings is immeasurable. With a new arena and practice facility on the horizon, a talented roster which is impactful both on the court and in the community, exciting positioning in the upcoming draft, a passionate and loyal fanbase, a fully invested ownership group, and a dedicated front office staff, now is the time for the Wings.”
Miller steps into the role at a pivotal time for the Dallas Wings. The WNBA is less than a month away from an expansion draft where its newest franchise, Golden State, will draft from a list of current players to make up its roster ahead of the 2025 season. Miller will now be responsible for choosing six players to save from that draft. These six will be guaranteed roster spots on the team he looks to lead next season.
Additionally, Miller will begin the search for a new head coach following the Trammell dismissal last month. As he’s doing that, he and the Wings will learn their draft position for the 2025 WNBA Draft on Nov. 17 during an ESPN broadcast of the draft lottery. Dallas has a 45% chance to obtain the No. 1 pick and, due to their pick swap rights with Chicago, will have no worse than the No. 3 pick.
As Miller said in his introductory quote, the time is now for the Dallas Wings and the team made a good first step Friday hiring an experienced and battle-tested general manager that knows how to get his teams to the upper echelon of the league.
