What was his top-secret meeting about?
Just one day away from taking on the Sacramento Kings in the NBA play-in tournament, Dallas Mavericks GM Nico Harrison felt this morning to be an opportune time to make a total ass of himself, once again. This time, he did so by setting a very secret, last-minute meeting with only a few, hand-picked members of the press, in what many hoped would amount to either his resignation or termination.
Instead, reports are slowly coming out that nothing new was disclosed in this questionably “secret” meeting. Reporters weren’t allowed to utilize audio or video recording devices of any kind. Presumably, this was done because Nico (and the Dallas organization) are well aware that everything that comes out of their collective mouth reeks.
What was the meeting really for, you’re wondering? So is just about everyone who has been reading about it this morning. The phrase “Defense wins championships” was tossed around more than anything else.
Nico said “defense wins championships” repeatedly in response to any question about why the Luka trade happened. i’ll have more on our @DLLS_Mavs show at noon. https://t.co/nAXxQIUXnS

Also uttered was the sanguine, “There’s no regrets on the trade”. Uhm… okay. Why are we here again, Mr. Harrison? It can be safely assumed that this was some kind of attempt to seem brave in the face of complete failure, which is confusing to me. No one was asking for it, but they felt it was important to hold this private meeting in which absolutely nothing new or in any way informative has been disclosed. All this, coming only 6 days after Luka Doncic led the Lakers with 45 points in what was a bittersweet moment for Mavericks fans. He was cheered heavily by all in attendance almost every time he touched the ball. At several points during the game, the crowd worked itself into a frenzy of “Fire Nico” chants. It was great.
Which brings us back to this morning and Nico Harrison’s top-secret presser about…absolutely nothing. Who signed off on this? It feels like a desperate attempt for attention by someone who was recently broken up with. Can the media block this guy’s number already?
